the hoover dam cactus cooperative is a continuation project from test bed ii - a revitalise program takes place at the disused hoover dam. the proposal built a hypothetical projection into the year 2050, a time when the water level feeding the hoover dam will be too low to sustain las vegas’ thirst for hydroelectric power. the hdcc investigates the uses of cacti technology to harvest energy generated by the cacti.
programmatically, the project poses a challenge to create the most efficient and economical settlement for the hdcc workers. living units and working spaces are arranged strategically to create the most comfortable environment with minimal consumption of resources.
the project proposes a vision of our future in signature aesthetics, where cacti are used as a power resource - a distinct mix between high-tech and poetic imagery in which plants function as a beautification and renewable energy ingredient. the hoover dam cactus cooperative envisages a visionary view of planet's future, where mankind and nature have made a vowed to co-exist.
